A WORK IN PROCESS
At BarCamp, we've ditched the predetermined speaker list. We're a user-generated, creative unconference that provides a space for everyday humans to share their passions. Talks aren’t scheduled until just before the conference starts, and anyone can speak — though it's just as rewarding to sit back and listen. There's no bar (except for drinks at the opening party) and no camp (unless you bring your own tent). But there's a whole lot to discover.
This year, we celebrate process. How do we get from A to B, and where do our creative worlds collide? BarCamp 2018 invites you to share your messy, extraordinary, perhaps unfinished creations — because we're all a work in process.
Agenda
Friday, Aug 3
7pm | Opening Party sponsored by Adobe
> Hi-Fi House
Get pumped for the opening party, brought to you by Adobe! Each BarCamp ticket purchase gets you one free drink ticket. This party and its cash bar is open to the public, so bring your friends — you can always purchase BarCamp tickets at the door. We’ll have photos, choice tunes, and great company.
8pm | Adobe Workshop featuring Aaron Bernstein
Join us for a free interactive workshop hosted by Adobe creative resident Aaron Bernstein, an NYC-based photographer. We'll use hands-on activities to explore alternative conceptual techniques, pushing the boundaries of context in artwork to redefine meaning and highlight the importance of intent with which the work was created.
9pm | Prize Giveaways
All partygoers are entered for a chance to win prizes from our partners.
Saturday, Aug 4
8am | Breakfast + Sign Up
> KANEKO
Grab a bagel and coffee, sign up for a talk, and get to know your fellow BarCampers.
8:45am | BarCamp 2018 Kickoff
Our emcee duo, Flame Schoeder and William M. Riley, will lay some ground rules for the day. We’ve got a lot in store this year, so get there early!
9am | Morning Talks Begin
We’ll start the first round of talks promptly at 9am — get ready to learn and to share. Hosts from FireBelly Rep will be at each track to help speakers with audio/video needs and emotional support. And thanks to Tech Omaha, we’re able to film talks at every track.
12pm | Lunch
Grab a sack lunch and catch up with old and new friends. We’ve got a special lunch activity in the works this year, where you’ll have the chance to impact the future of BarCamp. More details coming soon.
1pm | *NEW* Special Round: Lightning Talks
Want to share, but don’t have enough content for a half hour? No worries! We’re hosting a special round of 7-minute lightning talks at each track.
1:30pm | Half-Hour Talks Resume
Round out the last few hours of BarCamp and pop into a track you haven’t been to, or sign up for a talk of your own!
4pm | Closing Ceremony
Say goodbye to another year of BarCamp. But stay tuned — we’re planning extended programming in 2019.

Do I have to give a talk?
Absolutely not! Many BarCampers just want to meet new people and listen to talks. We encourage you to participate however you’re most comfortable. That’s the beauty of the unconference — you can pretty much do whatever you want, and it’ll be rewarding.
If I do give a talk, will I have any help?
This year, we’re providing each track with two speaker aides from FireBelly Rep, who will help calm your nerves and troubleshoot your tech. Tech Omaha will provide a video recording of your talk and an extra special BarCamp 2018 souvenir.
How long are the talks?
Each talk runs for 23 minutes. Speakers are allowed to use that time however they wish — you can even share a time slot with multiple people or set up a panel discussion, allowing time for Q&A at the end. The last 7 minutes of every half-hour slot is reserved for transition time between talks.
Can I give a sales presentation?
Nope! To be respectful of our BarCamp community, sales presentations or pitches are not allowed. Don’t even try it, folks.
What should I bring?
Feel free to bring your notebook, a stylus and your business cards. (We’ll also provide you with a BarCamp instruction manual where you’ll have ample room to take notes and exchange contact info.) If you’ve planned a talk with presentation slides, bring your laptop or an external drive with your files — we encourage you to use Google Slides to make everything a little easier. And maybe bring a clean pair of underwear, because you know the creative process gets messy.
When do I get my BarCamp t-shirt?
Tees are sponsored by Agape Red and will be available on the day of BarCamp at the merch table. Though we try to purchase enough of each t-shirt size, we recommend picking your shirt up early in the morning just in case.
Is my ticket transferrable?
If you’re unable to attend BarCamp, please contact Molly Misek at barcampchair@nebraska.aiga.org to transfer or refund your ticket. Ability to do so expires after July 31, 2018.
What if I have a food allergy?
No sweat! We make sure everyone is included. If you have specific food allergies or restrictions, email barcampchair@nebraska.aiga.org and we’ll take care of you. Each year we work with our caterer to provide vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.
